I went to the debate as well. It's interesting how we draw different conclusions.

You think the atheists' science and philosophy is unimpressive compared to deep feelings and convictions of theists. You said that atheists were scoring points, whereas Lennox was focused on souls. That seems to me the thought that, despite that the atheists made compelling, logical arguments that weren't refuted, you dismiss these points, and are happy to continue holding faith despite points against it, as if evidence is secondary. I contend that evidence is primary, and that 'scoring points' is equivalent to having better justifications for the atheists' beliefs. Of course, you may disagree about which points were scored.

I, as an atheist, think that Lennox failed to address Rosen's basic question. How does a good god allow evil? The question has stood since Epicurus.

It's nice that religions and gods give comforting feelings to people, but in the face of the horrible suffering and death of countless innocents (27,000 children a day), is it morally consistent to applaud this god for his loving nature? Parents are praying for god right now while their children are dying. It's nice that god helps you feel protected and loved, but meanwhile he is ignoring most people who need him/it most. I think by understanding the totality of evidence, and not just considering one's own relationship with a god, they can better appreciate the true nature of how their god would be in the world - that is, not as loving and benevolent as you might like to think.

The classic theodicies are:
1) Evil (or unnecessary suffering) is ok because of some greater good (e.g. free will)
2) Evil is ok because god makes up for it in the afterlife
3) Evil is ok because of some unknown reason. God simply must be just, even though we can't understand why.

The third is the weakest form of argument - that there must be an answer, but not only can I not tell you which answer it is, I cannot even *conceive* of it. That was Lennox's strategy, an appeal to ignorance, an appeal to faith. For this reason, I contend that he lost to Rosen in this debate.
